Dana Carvey suggested that Lorne Michaels is quite intrigued by Blake Lively’s legal drama with Justin Baldoni.

After Ryan Reynolds made a joke about the It Ends With Us legal battle at the SNL 50 Anniversary Special, Carvey, 69, recalled text messages he received from Michaels, 80, after the episode aired.

“I texted Lorne after the show, ‘Wish I could have been there,’” Carvey claimed on the Thursday, February 20, episode of the “Fly on the Wall” podcast. “Instead of talking about the show, he just goes, ‘Baldoni will now countersue. I think that Lively will probably get a new attorney.’”

When Carvey tried to compliment Michaels on Tom Hanks’ sketch and Steve Martin’s monologue, the conversation went back to Reynolds’ joke.

“‘I don’t know where Ryan Reynolds is on this, but certainly they have deep pockets,’” Carvey said when recalling Michaels’ texts. Us Weekly has reached out to Saturday Night Live reps for comment on behalf of Michaels.

While Carvey was unable to make the television event on Sunday, February 16, because of the flu, he said he would love to have Baldoni, 41, on his podcast.

“I’ll say this right now,” Carvey said to cohost David Spade. “If he wants to come on and tell his side, I would love that.”

During a star-studded Q&A segment with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at the SNL 50 Anniversary Special, Reynolds, 48, poked fun at the highly publicized legal proceedings that have played out since December 2024. (Lively, 37, first filed a lawsuit against Baldoni accusing him of sexual harassment and allegedly attempting to destroy her reputation. He has denied the claims and also filed a defamation suit against Lively and Reynolds, who have denied Baldoni’s claims.)

Asked by Fey, 54, and Poehler, 53, how he was doing, Reynolds responded, “[I’m doing] great. Why, what have you heard?”

Saturday Night Live staffer Wally Feresten, better known as Cue Card Wally, alleged on an Australian breakfast radio show that Reynolds pitched the idea.

“He had a different line in rehearsal and he pitched that to replace it,” Ferestin, 60, claimed on the Fifi, Fev & Nick show. “That was his idea to do it. We wouldn’t want to do anything too controversial unless they were in on it. So yeah, that was his line. That was his idea to do it.”

A source close to Reynolds denied Feresten’s claims to Us Weekly. Representatives for SNL added that Feresten’s claims are “not true.”

In his latest podcast episode, Spade described Ferestin as “so sweet and naive.”

While Baldoni has not publicly commented on the joke, his attorney expressed his surprise that it was included in the special.

“I’m unaware of anybody, frankly, whose wife has been sexually harassed and has made jokes about that type of situation. I can’t think of anyone who’s done anything like that,” Bryan Freedman said on the Monday, February 17, episode of the “Hot Mics With Billy Bush” podcast. “So it surprised me.”
