Rams place Puka Nacua, Steve Avila, Joe Noteboom on injured reserve
Nacua and Avila, out with knee injuries, and Noteboom, who has a high ankle sprain, will miss at least four games
The Rams’ made some injury designations official Wednesday, placing wide receiver Puka Nacua and offensive linemen Steve Avila and Joe Noteboom on injured reserve.
Head coach Sean McVay said Monday it was extremely likely that Nacua (PCL sprain) and Avila (MCL sprain) would land on IR after they suffered their knee injuries in the first half of the season-opening loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. He was less certain that Noteboom (high ankle sprain) would need to go on IR, but said it would depend on how testing went this week.
All three players will be required to miss at least four games. The earliest they could return is after the Rams’ Week 6 bye for the Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
To replace the multitude of missing bodies along the offensive line, the Rams announced the signings of tackle Geron Christian Sr. and guard Dylan McMahon to the active roster. Christian is a five-year veteran, while McMahon was a sixth-round pick in April’s draft that the Rams signed off the Eagles’ practice squad.
The Rams also announced that they signed veteran cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon to the practice squad. Witherspoon was a starter last season for the Rams and gives the team a veteran alternative as Cobie Durant is day-to-day with a toe injury.
